Generator Sets Testing
For the proper functioning of the back-up generator sets, it is necessary to comply with the service and maintenance periods, as well as to charge with the progressive load, up to the maximum load of the generator set. Often the progressive charging up to the maximum load is not possible in the location of the beneficiary, that is why are used load banks that allow the progressive charging of the generator set, up to the maximum load.
The operation of the generator set at low load leads in the long run to oil, fuel leaks and to the accumulation of unburned fuel in the piston head, the formation of carbon on valves and turbines, because it does not reach the operating temperature (90 degrees). These inconveniences can also increase fuel consumption and decrease engine power capacity.
To avoid them it is recommended:
- to start of the generator set with load take over of at least 60% for 40 - 50 minutes
- not to use the generator set without charge for more than 5 minutes
- to avoid the charge level with a load of less than 30% of the generator set
- to use the charging bank once a year to test the generator set
To avoid them it is recommended:
- Testing with a load bank allows the engine to reach optimum operating temperature and to eliminate unburned fuel accumulations. The result is a generator set that works cleaner and more efficiently. Such a test also gives you the guarantee that your generator set is operating at the normal parameters at which it was designed to operate. Any generator set, whether diesel or gas powered, has only benefits if it is tested via a load bank.
